My Life in 8 Words: “Hectic, wonderful, complete; everything I ever wanted.”
Katy Evans grew up with books and book-boyfriends until she found a real sexy boyfriend to love. They married and are now hard at work on their own happily ever after. Katy loves her family and friends, and she also loves reading, walking, baking, and being consumed by her characters until she reaches “The End.” Which is, hopefully, only the beginning…
Firstly thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me for Whirlwindbooks, I am a huge fan of your debut novel [REAL] and think you kind of amazing. I thought I would jump right in and ask what inspired you to write?
I’ve always wanted to be a writer, since I was probably about twelve and I got hooked on Sweet Valley High and the Wakefield sisters! I think I started my first book at around sixteen and from then on, I’ve started dozens and dozens of ideas that might not ever be finished, entered contests, the works. Practice makes perfect, though, so I am glad I’ve been practicing all this time.

Where did the idea for the book [REAL] come from?
I had always, always, wanted to write Remington. He’s been in my head for a long time, like a mash up of every sexy hero I have ever read, only even more loveable because he’s also special. Alpha, strong, driven, sexy as hell, a fighter in both body and mind, you can’t help but love Remington to pieces!

How did you come up with the title?
He just sort of came with it. Since the first pages of the book, I knew it would be called REAL, for it has to do with what Remington most wants and what he quietly, secretly fights for.

Why did you choose to self-publish? Did you try the traditional route first?
Yes, I’ve been writing, entering contests & trying different publishers for many years under different names. Then I got exhausted and quit, disheartened that there were always things to change, things that ‘didn’t work for this line.’ Self-publishing breaks with all that—it allowed me to just write the book of my heart and expose it just as it was envisioned in my head.

REAL stars a boxer, Remy, who competes in the dangerous underground fighting circuit. So the question is … do you prefer good guys or bad boys?
Thank you so much for having me over, it’s such a pleasure to be here. Oh, I absolutely love bad boys. 100% of the time.

There are a few books out right now that focus on boxers, but there’s no one like Remy. What made you look into the world of fighting, esp. Remy’s world of underground fight club-style fighting?
Honestly when I started REAL I hadn’t read a book about underground fighting at all, so I wasn’t really following a trend. Remington is just who he is, an athlete at heart and a fighter in all the sense of the word. I’m a lover and believer in exercise for well being and a happy life, so it wasn’t really hard to research this aspect which is something I “live” day to day.

We saw in another interview that you are a runner. Do you have a running playlist to keep you motivated while running? Care to share a few titles?
I love my running playlist. I always get pumped up to Kelly Clarkson, she’s so great. Also, Pink? Love me some Pink!

Okay the ultimate question, If you had 24 hours with Remy, what would you do?
Haha. Honestly I feel like I have him all the time and for more than 24 hours! But if he were to knock on my door, all alone, I would pick up myself from the floor, stare, ask him to do a turn, stare some more…and, knowing Remington has eyes for no one but Brooke, and I adore Brooke, I would simply pull out my set of boxing gloves, give him a set, and spar with him. Then I’d die thrilled.

Please tell us a fun-fact about yourself!
Alright, I’m a big believer in energy and the astrological weather patterns. So I get wary when there are Mercury Retrogrades, and I especially worry about my writing files being safe in my computer.
